Since the year 7500 BC. C. we have evidence that demonstrates its use in the diet of various American countries.
Hot peppers, cayenne peppers or chili peppers come from a plant that can reach 35 to 80 cm in height.
It has leaves between 5 and 12 centimeters long and reproduces through seeds.
The reason it is so spicy is capsaicin, an oleoresin where the active ingredient that produces itching through irritation in mammals is found. However, birds can consume them without suffering this effect.
When to plant?
For best results, sow at the end of winter to July, this way, when spring arrives the plant will be able to take advantage of the light and pleasant temperatures to develop and begin flowering.
The plant requires a warm climate to develop and fairly loose soil, capable of draining water correctly.
SOWING:
Bury the seed 5 mm deep and cover it with a little finely sifted soil. Water with a spray bottle to keep it moist until it germinates.
Check out our blog on how to make a seedbed with reusable materials.
Once it has germinated, wait until it is 15 cm in size to transplant to its final place in the garden.
If you plan to plant it directly in a pot, choose a pot with drainage holes.
Place a shallow saucer under the pot so you can water the soil well.
SOIL: adapts without too many problems to practically any type of soil.
WATERING : After planting hot peppers, watering should be regular and abundant.
HARVESTING: The harvesting of hot peppers will take place between the months of June and October. However, in hotter areas we can considerably increase the harvesting period.
