The gherkin is native to the tropical regions of South Asia. It has been cultivated in India for more than 3,000 years. From India it spreads to Greece and from there to Rome. The Romans introduced it to other parts of Europe, including China. Christopher Columbus is apparently the one who brought seeds to America.

It belongs to the cucurbits family. It is considered a one fruit vegetable. In Mexico it is consumed to prepare salads and fresh water. Originally from China, this fruit gradually spread throughout Europe and the rest of the world. In ancient times it was known in Greece and Rome. Cultivated in America from colonial times.

It is low in calories, free of saturated fat, cholesterol (which reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease), sodium free (reduces hypertension) and rich in vitamins A and C. It is widely used in the cosmetics industry.

They belong to the family of cucurbits such as: Zucchini Pumpkins Melons

It can be planted together with Dill, Celery, Cabbage, Green Beans, Onions, Carrots, Lettuce

It should not be planted next to: Melon, Potato, Salvia and Tomato

Cucumbers They are climbing plants, if you do let them climb they will take up less growing space and will grow 2 to 5 times more cucumbers.
