Brussels sprout seeds

Brussels sprouts are characterized by producing small, compact heads or round shoots, similar to mini-cauliflowers, which grow on the main stem of the plant. These sprouts are the edible parts and are harvested when they reach their proper size.

Climate: Brussels sprouts are a hardy plant and do well in cool climates. It prefers moderate temperatures and can tolerate cold, making it suitable for growing in the fall and winter. The ideal temperatures for its growth range between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius.

Germination: Brussels sprout seeds usually take around 7-10 days to germinate. However, keep in mind that this time can vary depending on environmental conditions, such as temperature and humidity. To promote successful germination, it is advisable to keep the soil moist but not saturated with water and to provide the seeds with a warm and protected environment, such as a covered seedbed or greenhouse, especially during the first few days after sowing.

Harvest: Brussels sprouts are ready to harvest when they reach a diameter of about 2.5 to 5 centimeters. You can start harvesting them from the bottom up, as they mature. If conditions are favourable, harvest can be done approximately 90 to 120 days after planting.

Benefits: Brussels sprouts are an excellent source of nutrients, including vitamin C, vitamin K, fiber, and antioxidants. It also contains phytochemicals that are believed to have anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, its cultivation at home promotes food self-sufficiency and reduces dependence on food from afar.
