Origin: The chile de árbol is native to Mexico. It is known as "chile de árbol" because it grows on tall bushes, which can reach a height of up to 1.5 meters.

Heat level: Chile de árbol is known to be quite hot . On the Scoville scale, which measures the level of spiciness of chiles, it is estimated that the chile de árbol has a range of 15,000 to 30,000 Scoville units. This places it at a medium-high heat level.

Growing in pots: Chile de árbol can be grown in pots at home, as long as the right conditions are provided. Here are some tips for planting:

  • Choose a pot large enough, at least 30 cm in diameter, to allow good root development.

  • Make sure the pot has drainage holes in the bottom to prevent excess moisture.

  • Use a well-drained, nutrient-rich soil mix for growing.

  • Place the pot in a sunny location, preferably with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

  • Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Avoid overwatering, as chile de árbol is susceptible to waterlogging.

  • Care and harvest: The chile de árbol requires care similar to other chiles. Here are some recommendations:

  • Fertilize regularly with a balanced fertilizer to promote good growth and development.

  • Chiles de árbol typically mature in approximately 70 to 90 days from planting. You can harvest them when they are ripe and bright red. Simply cut the chiles carefully so as not to damage the plant.

  • Remember that growing chile de árbol in pots may require a little more attention compared to growing it in the ground, but it is an excellent option for having your own hot chili peppers at home. Enjoy the experience of growing and harvesting your own chiles de arbol!
