From the Nahuatl chilli, a plant native to America. It has a high content of vitamins C and A. During pre-Hispanic times, its cultivation was already known. It has an elongated shape, measures 15 to 20 cm long and 2 to 3 cm wide, meaty and spicy. Also known as "chile para dehebrarar". Its color is green and when it reaches maturity it becomes darker. It is best grown in warm, well-drained soil. Lack of water and low temperatures affect its development.

The chilaca pepper is a Mexican variety of chili (Capsicum annuum). In Michoacán it is known as chili cuernillo or chili to unravel and its dry version is called chile pasilla.

The chilaca pepper has an intense and bright green color, sometimes dark. It has an elongated shape, frequently twisted, from 14 to 23 cm long and 2-3 cm in diameter, although it can reach up to 30 cm long. It has a pungency between 10,000 and 15,000 SHU, that is, from spicy to very spicy. When dried, it loses its natural twist and turns reddish-brown in color.
