Canola is a variant within the species Brassica napus and B. rapa, commonly known as rapeseed, and is an oilseed that is among the first crops exploited by man; Some civilizations in Asia and Europe used rapeseed oil as fuel in lamps.

This winter oilseed is an annual plant with yellow flowers from which different products are obtained such as grain for the edible oil industry, bio-diesel production; pod for birds, forage for livestock and quelite for human consumption.

Canola production has had a significant increase in the last 20 years, the relevant states in production are: Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, State of Mexico and Zacatecas, its production occurs in conditions of temperate or cold temperate climate and with ambient humidity.
